I had always wanted to visit Egypt so it’s all very exciting. I’m very proud of the film and feel quite thrilled to be able to present it at the CIFF. It was enormously flattering to be asked to come here. I’ve wanted to visit since I was a child!Ģ- What excites you the most about coming here to Egypt and has your new movie “The Father” screened at the Cairo International Film Festival? It’s my first time here and yesterday I spent the entire day at the Pyramids of Giza and that was really extraordinary. Prior to the interview, we got the chance to watch “ The Father” early on before the official screening.ġ- How’s your stay in Egypt going, so far? Have you been to any interesting spots? And, that stars Anthony Hopkins, Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell. “The Father” is a 2020 French-British drama production that is co-written and directed by Florian Zeller. We had the pleasure of exclusively interviewing the star one-on-one, as part of his brief visit to Egypt for the screening of his latest movie “ The Father” in the 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). In rom-coms like “A Knight’s Tale” and “The Holiday” and in so many other genres. With a career that spanned over three decades, this man became a staple in Hollywood epics such as “ The Legend of Zorro”, “Gods of Egypt” and “The Illusionist”. Sewell is repped by CAA, Julian Belfrage & Assoc. This film looks to have broader ensemble of players driving the narrative. The new film marks one of Shyamalan’s biggest ensembles in some time as his films are usually built on two or three main characters driving the film with a smaller supporting cast. He will similarly finance his next two films. Those films went on to cumulatively gross more than $600 million worldwide. Shyamalan independently financed Glass, Split and The Visit with a combined production budget of $35 million. While it is unclear when production will begin given stay-at-home measures, the hope is to start rolling cameras by the fall as more safety precautions are put in place.
Universal recently dated Shaymalan’s movie for Jafter earlier taking it off the release calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reps for Universal and Shyamalan had no comment on the casting.
